"You got a towel?"

Hey, here's a short tidbit for today. So I tried to go to the Abilities Expo at the LA Convention Center. I say 'tried' because I was going between dog walks and did not realize the line would be out the door. I should have guessed that since I only had 30 minutes to look around I might not make it in. Anyway, when my aide and I were leaving we had to go down the elevator (there was ONE elevator for everyone at the entire convention- but that's another story). Anyway, I get in and the elevator attendant looks at me and then says to my aide, "You got a towel or something for that?" She was so kindly referring to my drool. My aide said, "No, it doesn't bother her and it doesn't bother me." After hearing my aide refer to me as a female, the woman asked, "She's a 'she' right?" Then the elevator attendant tried to touch my shoulder and I just jerked away. I definitely feel bad for all the people who had to ride on the elevator with her. Happy Friday!

  1. If I was yuor aide I would carry towel and ask her the woman in the elevator if she wouldn't mind wiping he drool from your face.. or something else that may be even more in her face.

  2. You'd think they'd do a little sensitivity training for the employees at the convention center.

  3. I agree with Disabled NYC. Any person but especially an employee should treat you with the respect you deserve as a human!

  4. I would have said "She only drools when she's in close proximity to a moron like you" :p

  6. At an Ability Expo, seriously? I swear, the idiocy of people really shouldn't surprise me as much as it does.

  7. maybe keeping a small stash of "comeback cards" for the offender would get the message across.
