Sorry guys

Sorry I haven't posted in a while but I have been insanely busy. I do have one funny story for you.
I almost always let kid's sayings slide becuase they are just curious and come out and say whatever they are thinking. This one was really cute. I was getting into my car when a bunch of kids with ice cream cones sat speculating on my gender. One would say "It's a boy!" and the other would respond with "NO, it's got a purple shirt on!" This went back and forth until the one that was the boss made his decision- "It's definitely a boy." I just laughed.

  1. You're so good-natured, I don't know if I would be able to not get angry after hearing that so often. Good to "hear" from you again =) Love your blog!

  2. hahaha I get that all the time! The other day I was talking with a kid, approx age 8, and he asked me if I was a girl or a boy. He said "you look like a boy, but your voice sounds like a girl..."
I told him I was a girl, and his responce was "are you sure?"
    I love kids :)

  3. lol too funny that happens glad they are just kids though adults are unbelivable when it comes to that they should know just to ask rather than comment glad things are going well for you good to see you posting again

  4. I wouldn't be as patient or good-natured.

I had started to think you quit blogging, so it's great to see a post.

  5. I always look forward to your posts. It's funny to see how children see gender so stereotypically masculine and feminine.

  6. I think you are smart to see the humor in these incidents. You can be aware and critical about the implications of these behaviors while still being able to smile about it. That seems to me to be one huge life-coping skill - laughter. My dad has Alzheimer's and my step-mom, his primary caregiver, is always cracking jokes about his situation. That seems to make it more sane for them. (Not saying a disability like CP is the same thing as a disease like Alzheimer's). Just saying how laughter can get you someplace new you weren't in before.

Also as a 6 ft tall woman who wears minimal makeup I am occasionally called "sir" when I'm at a store or a restaurant. It's kind of awkward. Maybe next time I'll laugh about it.

  7. I really appreciate laughing as a response! It's sort of strange though, as an adult kids' comments can be funny and innocent, but when I was asked this same exact question when I was a kid myself (with awkward and mixed gender expression) these were some of the most hurtful interactions I had.
