I have been busy
Hey all! I know I haven't posted on here in a while but that's because of 2 reasons. The first, I have been really busy training my Service Dog and second, people seem to treat me different when I have my Service Dog with me. I know I have briefly talked about this before, but that was only two weeks into training. A large portion of the training is taking Bailey out into public places to get him use to whatever can happen in public, kids, crowds, navigating aisles, etc. So I have been the weird person constantly going to stores and never buying anything. At first I thought going out so much would cause me to have more experiences with people behaving strangely (haha by using the word "strangely" I'm being polite) especially because I now had a service dog with me and I have heard really weird stories from people who have Service Dogs. I have heard everything from people barking at the dog tauntingly to people pretending to shoot the dog, to people following you around and then waiting outside the restroom until you come out so that they can keep teasing your dog. I however have had the opposite. People actually talk to me like I'm an adult when my Service Dog is with me. Yes I have had "drive by petters" (people who sneak a pat/rub in as they walk by) and people who ask questions. But they always address me directly. I'm sure in my partnership with Bailey people will do stupid stuff to us, but it has been really interesting to see the difference in the ways that I am treated. So no I didn't die or drop off the face of the earth.

ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about a service dog for my son and that's about the last thing that I would have thought of as a potential outcome. Glad to hear it!
